About Alkite-B6 Syrup
Alkite-B6 Syrup is a palatable oral liquid containing Potassium Citrate 1100 mg, Magnesium Citrate 375 mg and Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) 20 mg per 5 ml. It is used for the prevention and dissolution-assistance of renal stones — particularly calcium oxalate and uric acid stones — and to alkalinise the urine in patients with recurrent urinary tract calculi.
Potassium and magnesium citrate raise urinary pH and increase the urinary concentration of citrate, a potent inhibitor of calcium-oxalate and calcium-phosphate crystallisation. The increased citrate complexes with free calcium in the urine, reducing the supersaturation needed for crystal formation, growth and aggregation. Vitamin B6 is added to lower urinary oxalate excretion in patients with hyperoxaluria, further reducing stone-forming potential.
Alkite-B6 Syrup is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions, in a fruit-flavoured palatable base ideal for long-term prophylactic use. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.
Indications
- Prevention of recurrent calcium oxalate kidney stones
- Treatment and prevention of uric acid nephrolithiasis
- Urinary alkalinisation in hypocitraturia
- Adjunct after extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) or stone-removal surgery
- Hyperoxaluria-associated stone disease
Mechanism of Action
Citrate salts dissociate in the gut to release citrate, which is absorbed and excreted in urine where it raises urinary pH and chelates free calcium, reducing calcium-oxalate and calcium-phosphate supersaturation. Higher urinary pH also keeps uric acid in its more soluble ionised form. Vitamin B6 acts as a cofactor in alanine glyoxylate aminotransferase, reducing endogenous oxalate production in patients with primary hyperoxaluria.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 10 ml three times daily after meals; or as directed by physician based on urinary pH monitoring. Children: dose by body weight under medical supervision. Take with adequate fluid intake (>2 L/day) for optimal stone prevention.
Side Effects
Mild gastric discomfort, nausea, loose stools (citrate effect). Rare: hyperkalaemia (especially with potassium-sparing diuretics or renal impairment), peripheral neuropathy with very high long-term B6 doses.
Contraindications & Precautions
Severe renal impairment with hyperkalaemia; severe metabolic alkalosis; adrenal insufficiency; severe dehydration; concurrent potassium-sparing diuretics. Caution in patients on ACE inhibitors, ARBs or NSAIDs (potassium retention risk). Monitor urinary pH and serum potassium periodically.
Storage
Store below 30 °C in a dry place. Once opened, use within 30 days.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Alkite-B6 Syrup used for?
Alkite-B6 Syrup is used for the prevention and management of kidney stones (calcium oxalate and uric acid types) and for alkalinising the urine in patients prone to recurrent urinary tract calculi.
How does Alkite-B6 prevent kidney stones?
Citrate in Alkite-B6 raises urinary pH and binds free calcium, preventing the formation of calcium-oxalate and calcium-phosphate crystals. Vitamin B6 helps reduce urinary oxalate excretion.
Is Alkite-B6 Syrup available for PCD pharma franchise?
Yes, Trumac Healthcare offers Alkite-B6 Syrup on monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and for third-party manufacturing across India.
How should Alkite-B6 Syrup be stored?
Store below 30 °C in a dry place. Once opened, use within 30 days. Shake well before use.
Should Alkite-B6 be taken with water?
Yes — drink plenty of fluids (at least 2 litres of water per day) when taking Alkite-B6 to maximise its stone-prevention effect.
