About Glimstay-M1 SR Tablet
Glimstay-M1 SR Tablet combines Glimepiride 1 mg with Metformin 500 mg SR — the standard starting fixed-dose combination after Metformin monotherapy fails. Glimepiride causes less severe hypoglycaemia than older sulphonylureas (Glibenclamide).

Indications
- Type 2 diabetes inadequately controlled on Metformin
- Newly diagnosed Type 2 DM with HbA1c 7.5–9%
Mechanism of Action
Glimepiride is a third-generation sulphonylurea — longer duration of action, lower risk of severe hypoglycaemia than older agents, and weight-neutral compared with insulin secretagogues. Metformin reduces hepatic glucose production (gluconeogenesis), improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, and reduces intestinal glucose absorption — without causing hypoglycaemia in monotherapy.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 1 tablet once daily with breakfast. Up-titrate weekly based on glycaemic response.
Side Effects
Hypoglycaemia, weight gain (less with Glimepiride), nausea, mild GI upset. Rare hyponatraemia. GI upset (Metformin).
Contraindications & Precautions
Type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe hepatic/renal impairment, pregnancy, lactation, sulpha allergy.
