About Glicatus-M 80/500 SR Tablet
Glicatus-M 80/500 SR Tablet combines Gliclazide 80 mg with Metformin 500 mg SR — a sulphonylurea-biguanide combination for Type 2 diabetes inadequately controlled on Metformin alone. Gliclazide has additional antioxidant and vascular benefits among sulphonylureas.
SR Metformin reduces GI side effects compared with immediate-release Metformin.

Mechanism of Action
Gliclazide is a second-generation sulphonylurea that stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells by closing ATP-sensitive K+ channels. Has additional antioxidant and vascular protective effects. Metformin reduces hepatic glucose production (gluconeogenesis), improves peripheral insulin sensitivity, and reduces intestinal glucose absorption — without causing hypoglycaemia in monotherapy.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 1 tablet once or twice daily with meals. Adjust based on glycaemic response.
Side Effects
Hypoglycaemia, weight gain (less with Glimepiride), nausea, mild GI upset. Rare hyponatraemia. GI upset, lactic acidosis (rare with Metformin), metallic taste.
Contraindications & Precautions
Type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe hepatic/renal impairment, pregnancy, lactation, sulpha allergy. eGFR < 30 ml/min, acute illness with dehydration, recent IV contrast.
