About Cefiza-M Tablet
Cefiza-M Tablet is a high-end combination of Cefixime 400 mg with Moxifloxacin 400 mg in extended-release. This combination provides broad gram-negative coverage from cefixime plus respiratory pathogen and anaerobic coverage from moxifloxacin — used for severe community-acquired pneumonia, complicated intra-abdominal infections and post-surgical sepsis as step-down from injectable therapy.
Moxifloxacin is a fourth-generation respiratory fluoroquinolone with strong gram-positive (including S. pneumoniae) and anaerobic coverage that complements cefixime’s gram-negative spectrum.
Cefiza-M is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing — a high-margin specialty antibiotic SKU.
Indications
- Severe community-acquired pneumonia
- Complicated intra-abdominal infections (step-down from IV)
- Post-surgical sepsis maintenance therapy
- Severe ENT infections requiring broad coverage
Mechanism of Action
Cefixime binds penicillin-binding proteins (PBP-3) on gram-negative bacteria, inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis. The result is bacterial cell wall destabilisation and osmotic lysis. Cefixime is resistant to many beta-lactamases produced by gram-negative organisms — distinguishing it from earlier cephalosporins. Moxifloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, blocking DNA replication. Concentration-dependent killing complements cefixime's time-dependent action.
