About Amrocip-500 Tablet

Amrocip-500 Tablet is the standard adult-strength Ciprofloxacin 500 mg tablet for the treatment of bacterial infections that require higher tissue concentrations than the 250 mg strength provides. The 500 mg twice-daily regimen is used for complicated urinary tract infections, lower respiratory infections, bone and joint infections, and bacterial prostatitis.

Ciprofloxacin’s broad coverage of gram-negative organisms (Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas), atypical pathogens, and selected gram-positive bacteria makes it one of the most versatile oral antibiotics in primary care. Its excellent bioavailability and tissue penetration — particularly into urine, prostate and respiratory secretions — support its position in multiple specialty treatment guidelines.

Amrocip-500 is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions and is one of the company’s flagship antibiotic SKUs. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise, government tenders and third-party manufacturing.

Indications

  • Complicated urinary tract infections (including pyelonephritis)
  • Bacterial prostatitis (acute and chronic)
  • Community-acquired pneumonia (with macrolide)
  • Acute exacerbations of COPD
  • Bone and joint infections
  • Severe traveller's diarrhoea and shigellosis
  • Anthrax post-exposure prophylaxis

Mechanism of Action

Ciprofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV — enzymes essential for DNA replication, transcription, and repair. By preventing supercoiling and chromosome decatenation, ciprofloxacin produces rapid concentration-dependent bactericidal activity with a sustained post-antibiotic effect.
