About Cefiza-DX Tablet

Cefiza-DX Tablet combines Cefixime 200 mg with Dicloxacillin 500 mg in a sustained-release format. The combination is used for mixed gram-positive and gram-negative skin/soft-tissue infections — particularly diabetic foot infections, post-surgical wound infections and severe cellulitis where both staphylococcal and gram-negative coverage is needed empirically.

Dicloxacillin is a penicillinase-resistant penicillin specifically active against methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA). Combined with cefixime’s broad gram-negative coverage, this dual therapy provides comprehensive empirical coverage for mixed-flora skin and soft-tissue infections.

Cefiza-DX is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing — a high-value antibiotic SKU.

Indications

  • Mixed-flora skin and soft-tissue infections
  • Diabetic foot infections
  • Post-surgical wound infections
  • Severe cellulitis with mixed flora suspected
  • Bone and joint infections (adjunct)

Mechanism of Action

Cefixime binds penicillin-binding proteins (PBP-3) on gram-negative bacteria, inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis. The result is bacterial cell wall destabilisation and osmotic lysis. Cefixime is resistant to many beta-lactamases produced by gram-negative organisms — distinguishing it from earlier cephalosporins. Dicloxacillin's bulky isoxazolyl side chain sterically prevents beta-lactamase hydrolysis, retaining activity against penicillinase-producing MSSA.
