About Aciron-400 Tablet
Aciron-400 Tablet contains Acyclovir 400 mg, a well-established synthetic nucleoside analogue active against Herpes Simplex Virus types 1 & 2 and Varicella-Zoster Virus. The 400 mg oral strength is the standard dose for the treatment and chronic suppression of genital herpes, recurrent labial herpes and herpes zoster in immunocompetent adults.
Acyclovir’s selectivity comes from its activation by viral thymidine kinase: only virus-infected cells produce the active triphosphate, which then inhibits viral DNA polymerase. This makes Acyclovir highly effective at controlling viral replication while sparing healthy host cells, giving it an excellent safety record over four decades of clinical use.
Aciron-400 is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare in WHO-GMP certified facilities and is available for PCD pharma franchise on a monopoly basis across India and for export.
Indications
- Treatment of genital herpes (initial and recurrent episodes)
- Chronic suppressive therapy for recurrent genital and labial herpes
- Treatment of herpes zoster (shingles)
- Varicella (chickenpox) in adolescents and adults
- Prophylaxis of HSV in immunocompromised patients
Mechanism of Action
Acyclovir is selectively phosphorylated by viral thymidine kinase to its monophosphate form; cellular kinases then convert it to acyclovir triphosphate, which is incorporated into viral DNA by viral DNA polymerase, causing premature chain termination and inhibiting viral replication. Uninfected host cells are largely unaffected.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 400 mg orally three times daily for genital herpes, or five times daily for herpes zoster, for 5–10 days. For chronic suppressive therapy: 400 mg twice daily. Adjust dose in renal impairment. Take with adequate fluids.
Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, headache, fatigue, skin rash. Less commonly: elevated liver enzymes, raised serum creatinine. Rare: neurotoxicity, thrombocytopenic purpura.
