Mechanism of Action
Triclofos Sodium is a chloral hydrate derivative — sedative-hypnotic used as paediatric pre-procedural sedation for MRI, EEG, dental procedures. Onset 30–60 minutes, duration 4–6 hours.
Dosage & Administration
Children: 50–70 mg/kg orally 30–60 minutes before procedure.
Side Effects
Drowsiness, paradoxical excitation in some children, ataxia, respiratory depression (overdose).
Contraindications & Precautions
Severe hepatic/renal impairment, sleep apnoea, severe respiratory depression.
