Mechanism of Action
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) with longest half-life (~24 hours) among ARBs — selectively blocks AT1 receptors causing vasodilation. Also activates PPAR-gamma providing metabolic benefits beyond BP lowering.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 40 mg once daily, may increase to 80 mg.
Side Effects
Dizziness, hyperkalaemia, increased creatinine, angioedema (rare), dyslipidaemia.
Contraindications & Precautions
Pregnancy (teratogenic), bilateral renal artery stenosis, severe hepatic impairment, hyperkalaemia.
