About Claribest-500 Tablet
Claribest-500 Tablet contains Clarithromycin 500 mg — the high-strength variant used for severe community-acquired pneumonia, H. pylori eradication (standard component of triple/quadruple therapy) and selected mycobacterial infections such as Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) prophylaxis in HIV.
The 500 mg twice-daily regimen is the standard dose for H. pylori eradication when combined with amoxicillin/metronidazole and PPI. Also used for severe atypical pneumonia and as part of MAC prophylaxis in immunocompromised patients.

Mechanism of Action
Clarithromycin is a 14-membered macrolide that binds the 50S bacterial ribosomal subunit, inhibiting peptidyl transferase and protein synthesis. Bacteriostatic against most organisms but bactericidal at high concentrations against susceptible species. Active against most respiratory pathogens including atypicals (Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, Legionella) and H. pylori.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 500 mg twice daily for 7–14 days. H. pylori: 500 mg twice daily for 10–14 days as part of triple therapy. MAC: 500 mg twice daily as prophylaxis.
Side Effects
Taste disturbance (metallic taste — characteristic), nausea, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, headache. QT prolongation (avoid with other QT-prolonging drugs). Drug interactions via CYP3A4 inhibition (warfarin, statins). Rare: hepatotoxicity, hypersensitivity.
