About Claribest-125 Dry Syrup
Claribest-125 Dry Syrup contains Clarithromycin 125 mg per 5 ml on reconstitution — a macrolide antibiotic widely used in paediatric practice for respiratory tract infections, including those caused by atypical pathogens (Mycoplasma, Chlamydia). The dry-syrup format preserves drug stability until point-of-dispensing reconstitution.
Clarithromycin is particularly useful in paediatric pneumonia where atypical pathogens (Mycoplasma pneumoniae) are common, in penicillin-allergic patients with streptococcal pharyngitis, and in H. pylori eradication. Twice-daily dosing improves compliance over older macrolides.
Claribest-125 is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.
Indications
- Paediatric pneumonia (with atypical pathogen suspicion)
- Streptococcal pharyngitis (penicillin-allergic)
- Acute otitis media
- Acute sinusitis
- Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection
- H. pylori eradication (combination therapy)
Mechanism of Action
Clarithromycin is a 14-membered macrolide that binds the 50S bacterial ribosomal subunit, inhibiting peptidyl transferase and protein synthesis. Bacteriostatic against most organisms but bactericidal at high concentrations against susceptible species. Active against most respiratory pathogens including atypicals (Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, Legionella) and H. pylori.
Dosage & Administration
Children: 7.5 mg/kg twice daily for 5–10 days. Reconstitute with supplied water; refrigerate after reconstitution; shake well before each dose.

Hypersensitivity to macrolides. Severe hepatic impairment. Concurrent ergot alkaloids, pimozide, cisapride, lovastatin/simvastatin (severe interactions). History of QT prolongation. Caution in renal impairment.
