About Cefom-S 1g Injection
Cefom-S 1g Injection contains Cefoperazone 500 mg with Sulbactam 500 mg in the alternative 1:1 ratio. The higher proportion of Sulbactam strengthens anti-Acinetobacter activity (sulbactam has intrinsic anti-Acinetobacter action that increases with dose) — particularly valuable in hospital-acquired infections where Acinetobacter baumannii is prevalent.
The 1:1 ratio formulation is preferred in ICU settings and ventilator-associated pneumonia where multi-drug-resistant Acinetobacter is suspected. The lower cefoperazone strength makes it more suitable for moderate adult and paediatric dosing.
Cefom-S 1g is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP injectable conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise, government tenders and third-party manufacturing.
Indications
- Hospital-acquired infections with Acinetobacter suspicion
- Ventilator-associated pneumonia
- Septicaemia in ICU
- Complicated UTI
- Skin and soft-tissue infections
- Surgical prophylaxis
Mechanism of Action
Cefoperazone is a third-generation cephalosporin with strong gram-negative coverage including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It binds penicillin-binding proteins to inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis. Sulbactam (or tazobactam in combinations) is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that extends the spectrum to beta-lactamase-producing strains. The 1:1 ratio emphasises sulbactam's intrinsic anti-Acinetobacter activity.
