About Bupivon-Heavy Injection
Bupivon-Heavy Injection contains Bupivacaine 5 mg/ml in a hyperbaric (heavy) preparation — the standard agent for spinal (intrathecal) anaesthesia in lower-abdominal, gynaecological, urological, orthopaedic and lower-limb surgery. The ‘heavy’ designation indicates added dextrose 8%, which makes the solution denser than CSF, allowing controlled spread by patient positioning.

Mechanism of Action
Bupivacaine reversibly binds voltage-gated sodium channels on neuronal membranes, blocking sodium influx and preventing depolarisation/action potential propagation. Dosage & Administration

Side Effects
Hypotension (sympathetic block), bradycardia, nausea, post-dural puncture headache. Serious: total spinal block, cardiac toxicity at very high systemic doses, respiratory depression. Local nerve injury rare.
