Mechanism of Action
Itraconazole inhibits fungal 14-α-demethylase, blocking conversion of lanosterol to ergosterol. Terbinafine inhibits squalene epoxidase (earlier in the pathway), causing intracellular squalene accumulation which is directly fungicidal. The dual blockade at two enzymatic steps provides additive and synergistic activity.
Dosage & Administration
- Apply a thin layer to affected area 1–2 times daily
- Continue for 2–4 weeks
- Treat for 1 week beyond symptom resolution
