Mechanism of Action
Terbinafine is an allylamine antifungal that inhibits fungal squalene epoxidase, causing intracellular squalene accumulation (directly fungicidal) and ergosterol depletion. Highly active against dermatophytes — especially Trichophyton — with selective accumulation in skin, hair and nails.
Dosage & Administration
- Topical: apply 1–2 times daily for 2–4 weeks
- Oral 500 mg: 250 mg once daily (typical dose used by halving)
- Onychomycosis: 6–12 weeks oral therapy
