Mechanism of Action
Univestin contains two synergistic standardised botanicals: Acacia catechu provides free-B-ring flavonoids that selectively inhibit cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2); Scutellaria baicalensis contains baicalin and other catechins that inhibit 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX). The dual COX-2 + 5-LOX blockade reduces both prostaglandin and leukotriene production at inflammatory sites — without inhibiting protective COX-1 and therefore without the gastric injury seen with conventional NSAIDs.
