Mechanism of Action
Salbutamol is a short-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist (SABA) — causes bronchodilation via cAMP-mediated smooth muscle relaxation. Onset 5–15 minutes by inhalation, duration 4–6 hours. First-line rescue therapy for acute bronchospasm.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 1 respule (2.5 mg) nebulised every 4–6 hours, more frequently in acute exacerbation.
Side Effects
Tachycardia, tremor, hypokalaemia, nervousness, headache.
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity, severe cardiovascular disease, hyperthyroidism.
