Mechanism of Action
Methylcobalamin (Mecobalamin) is the active coenzyme form of Vitamin B12 — directly utilised by tissues without conversion. Essential for myelin synthesis, nerve regeneration, DNA synthesis, and erythropoiesis. Preferred over cyanocobalamin in peripheral neuropathy management. Gabapentin binds alpha-2-delta calcium channel subunit reducing excitatory neurotransmitter release — for neuropathic pain.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 1 tablet twice daily.
Side Effects
Generally very well tolerated. Rare hypersensitivity, mild GI upset. Dizziness, somnolence (Gabapentin).
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to vitamin B12 or cobalt. Severe renal impairment (Gabapentin dose adjust).
