Mechanism of Action
Ibandronic Acid is a nitrogen-containing bisphosphonate that binds hydroxyapatite in bone — inhibiting osteoclast-mediated bone resorption. Cholecalciferol and Calcium replenish substrate for bone matrix.
Dosage & Administration
Ibandronate: 150 mg once monthly, on empty stomach with plain water, remain upright 60 minutes. Cholecalciferol sachet: once monthly. Calcium tablets: daily.
Side Effects
Oesophagitis (avoid lying down), osteonecrosis of jaw (rare), atypical femoral fracture (long-term), hypocalcaemia.
Contraindications & Precautions
Oesophageal stricture/achalasia, inability to remain upright 60 minutes, hypocalcaemia, severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30), pregnancy.
