Mechanism of Action
Cyproheptadine is a first-generation H1 antihistamine with 5-HT2 receptor antagonist activity. Used primarily as appetite stimulant in paediatrics and adults — increases food intake via hypothalamic effects. Tricholine Citrate supports hepatic fat metabolism. Sorbitol acts as osmotic laxative and mild appetite-supporting agent.
Dosage & Administration
Infants: 5–10 drops twice daily before feeds.
Side Effects
Drowsiness, dry mouth, increased appetite, weight gain, urinary retention (anticholinergic effects). Paradoxical excitation in some infants.
Contraindications & Precautions
Narrow-angle glaucoma, BPH with urinary retention, severe heart disease, MAOI use, neonates (apnoea risk). Infants below 6 months (relative).
