About Cefob-250 Tablet
Cefob-250 Tablet contains Cefuroxime Axetil 250 mg — the standard adult oral cephalosporin for community-acquired infections requiring broader coverage than first-generation cephalosporins. Widely prescribed for acute sinusitis, pharyngitis, lower respiratory tract infections, mild-to-moderate skin/soft-tissue infections and uncomplicated UTI.
Cefuroxime Axetil’s oral bioavailability with improved gram-negative coverage makes it a step-up choice when first-line therapy (e.g., amoxicillin, doxycycline) has failed or beta-lactamase resistance is suspected.
Cefob-250 is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing — a flagship oral cephalosporin SKU.
Indications
- Acute sinusitis
- Streptococcal pharyngitis
- Community-acquired pneumonia (mild-to-moderate)
- Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Uncomplicated UTI
- Skin and soft-tissue infections
- Lyme disease (early)
Mechanism of Action
Cefuroxime is a second-generation cephalosporin that binds penicillin-binding proteins, inhibiting peptidoglycan cross-linking and producing bacterial cell wall destabilisation. Compared with first-generation cephalosporins, cefuroxime has enhanced gram-negative activity (H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, E. coli) plus retained gram-positive coverage.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 250–500 mg twice daily for 7–10 days. Take with food for better absorption. Adjust in renal impairment.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, mild skin rash. Rare: pseudomembranous colitis, anaphylaxis, severe skin reactions, transient hepatic enzyme elevation. Cross-reactivity with penicillin allergy (~5–10%).
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Severe penicillin allergy. Caution in renal impairment (dose adjustment). Caution in GI disease.
Storage
Store below 30 °C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture.
