About Ceftru-200 DT Tablet
Ceftru-200 DT is the standard adult oral cephalosporin tablet containing Cefpodoxime Proxetil 200 mg in a dispersible format. The 200 mg dose twice daily is the standard adult regimen for community-acquired pneumonia, complicated sinusitis, skin and soft-tissue infections and uncomplicated gonorrhoea (single 200 mg dose).
Cefpodoxime’s spectrum covers most respiratory pathogens (S. pneumoniae including penicillin-intermediate, H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis) and many Enterobacteriaceae — making it a versatile choice for empirical therapy of community-acquired infections.
Ceftru-200 DT is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing — a flagship oral cephalosporin SKU.
Indications
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Acute sinusitis and otitis media
- Skin and soft-tissue infections
- Uncomplicated gonorrhoea (single 200 mg dose)
- Streptococcal pharyngitis
Mechanism of Action
Cefpodoxime Proxetil is an oral third-generation cephalosporin prodrug that is hydrolysed in intestinal mucosa to active cefpodoxime. It binds penicillin-binding proteins, inhibiting peptidoglycan cross-linking. Broad spectrum covering gram-negative (H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, E. coli, Klebsiella) and selected gram-positive (streptococci, MSSA) organisms — including many beta-lactamase-producing strains.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 200 mg twice daily for 7–14 days. Uncomplicated gonorrhoea: single 200 mg dose. Take with food. Disperse in water and drink.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, mild rash, headache. Rare: pseudomembranous colitis, anaphylaxis, severe skin reactions. Cross-reactivity with penicillin allergy (~5–10%).
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Severe penicillin allergy. Caution in renal impairment (dose adjustment). Caution in GI disease.
