About Ceftru-DS Dry Syrup
Ceftru-DS Dry Syrup provides Cefpodoxime 100 mg per 5 ml on reconstitution — the double-strength variant for older children and adolescents requiring higher cefpodoxime doses without increasing the per-dose volume.

Mechanism of Action
Cefpodoxime Proxetil is an oral third-generation cephalosporin prodrug that is hydrolysed in intestinal mucosa to active cefpodoxime. It binds penicillin-binding proteins, inhibiting peptidoglycan cross-linking. Broad spectrum covering gram-negative (H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, E. coli, Klebsiella) and selected gram-positive (streptococci, MSSA) organisms — including many beta-lactamase-producing strains.
Dosage & Administration
Older children: 10 mg/kg/day in two divided doses for 5–10 days. Reconstitute with supplied water; refrigerate after reconstitution.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, mild rash, headache. Rare: pseudomembranous colitis, anaphylaxis, severe skin reactions. Cross-reactivity with penicillin allergy (~5–10%).
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Severe penicillin allergy. Caution in renal impairment (dose adjustment). Caution in GI disease.
