Mechanism of Action
Amlodipine is a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker — causes peripheral arterial vasodilation. Once-daily dosing, 24-hour BP control. Standard antihypertensive.

Side Effects
Peripheral oedema (dose-related), flushing, headache, dizziness, gum hyperplasia (rare). More peripheral oedema at 10 mg.
Contraindications & Precautions
Severe hypotension, severe aortic stenosis, cardiogenic shock.
