Mechanism of Action
Pantoprazole irreversibly inhibits gastric H+/K+ ATPase (proton pump) — markedly suppressing both basal and stimulated acid secretion. Itopride is a peripheral D2 receptor antagonist with additional acetylcholinesterase inhibitor activity — enhances upper GI motility. Less hyperprolactinaemia and QT risk than Domperidone.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults: 1 capsule once daily before breakfast.
Side Effects
- Headache, diarrhoea, abdominal pain.
- Long-term: B12 deficiency, hypomagnesaemia, fracture risk.
- Itopride: rare extrapyramidal symptoms, hyperprolactinaemia (less than Domperidone).
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity.
- Caution in severe hepatic impairment.
