Mechanism of Action

Dosage & Administration
- Children >5 years: 10 mg/kg every 8 hours.
- Children <5 years: 10 mg/kg every 8 hours (consider every 8 hours dosing).
Side Effects
- Thrombocytopenia (with >14 day use, monitor weekly), peripheral and optic neuropathy (prolonged use), lactic acidosis, serotonin syndrome (with SSRIs).
Contraindications
- Concurrent MAO inhibitors, uncontrolled hypertension, pheochromocytoma, carcinoid, thyrotoxicosis.
- Caution with SSRIs, tricyclics, sympathomimetics.
