Mechanism of Action
Gatifloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, preventing DNA replication. The 8-methoxy group and dual enzyme targeting reduce the risk of resistance and extend coverage to Gram-positive cocci, atypical pathogens and anaerobes compared to earlier-generation fluoroquinolones.
Dosage & Administration
- Adults and children > 1 year: 1 drop every 2 hours for 2 days (acute phase)
- Then 1 drop 4 times daily for 5 more days
- Apply pressure to inner canthus to reduce systemic absorption
- Use under ophthalmologist supervision
